Hellboy II: The Golden Army
With the comic book genre continuing to smash box offices to pieces, Hellboy II: The Golden Army is making its way to the big screen. And a big screen is exactly what you'll need!
Visual wizard Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, and Pan's Labyrinth), once more casts his twisted spell over Mike Mignola's comic creation to bring us this devilish sequel.
The Golden Army continues the tale of Hellboy, a demon summoned by Nazi's at the end of World War II, but captured by the Allies and raised to serve good rather than evil.
Tired of being hidden from the outside world and with his literally "fiery" pyrokinetic girlfriend Liz (Selma Blair, Cruel Intensions) breathing down his neck, Big Red already has enough on his sworn off horns to worry about. So when elf prince Nuada, (an evil look-a-like of Legolas from Lord of the Rings), decides to break an ancient truce between humankind and the invisible realm of mythical creatures, Hellboy is in for a real headache.
Del Toro's creation of weird and wonderful creatures has trademarked his movies, and Hellboy II proves to be another playground for the visual genius. From Nuada's right-hand troll, Wink, to the ravenous, yet somehow cute "tooth fairies", the film overflows with visual delights that sometimes urge for a bigger screen.
With its beautifully crafted creatures, some hilarious slap-stick comedy, a tumour disguised as a baby, and possibly the best duet of the year, when Big Red and Abe give their rendition of "Can't Smile Without You", Hellboy II: The Golden Army is one hell of a movie.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army is released in cinemas nationwide August 20th
