LK- Hi Micha, How are you and where are you?
MM- Hi guys, I´m fine, thanks… I´m in my Studio right now, finishing a remix and on the weekend it´s traveltime again.
LK- What are your influences and musical background?
MM- My main influence is the partycrowd which I watch very closely every weekend. I don´t concentrate on other famous artists that much, because I wanna produce stuff that I like and that makes the crowd going nuts. My musical background goes back to my family in which everybody can play at least one instrument. I learned to play the drums and the guitar at a young age. Ever since I joined many bands and orchestras in several genres, from pop till metal. So you see, I´m very open minded about music.
LK- How do you feel about the current state of electronic music and dance music as a whole?
MM- The electronic music scene has always been an underground style and is not played by radio stations as much as rock or r’nb. But it´s a scene which is always on the move, creating new styles and hypes each year. So I think it´s very interesting to follow it and especially be part of it. Even though many people believe that dance music is dead – to my mind it will never be…
LK- Have you found it easier to get your music out there since the introduction of blogs and music download sites?
MM- Surely it´s easier and faster to check out tunes on Beatport than going to a record store. But sometimes I really miss the times when you met friends and other DJs at the record store, exchanging stories from the weekend. However, because of the digital download stores one is able to get the tracks faster, you don´t always have to wait for the vinyl. But most of the blogs really suck, many people don´t use them to discuss about music – they share music for free…I really hope they can handle that soon.
LK- What are your experiences of djing in London?
MM- I haven´t played in London yet. I couldn´t confirm the last gig so I hope there will be another one soon. I would really like to see London’s clublife.
LK- Where are your favorite places to go in London?
MM- That’s hard to say, because my last trip to London was long time ago. I just saw the city and its people but I didn´t discover the nightlife. I hope that I can make it up someday.
LK- Germany is getting a reputation for producing some amazing dance music, how do you feel about being part of this growing scene?
MM- It´s awesome that so many good producers come from Germany, especially from cologne where I live. They are all very nice guys and it´s always fun to meet and play with them regularly while touring around the world. Always be careful when the Germans are coming - we´ll have a big party…
LK- What tracks and artists should we be looking out for in the future?
MM- For me it´s still John Dahlbäck. His tracks touch me a lot and his output is amazing. I play a lot of his stuff in my sets. Furthermore, it´s the sound of Belocca, Muzzaik and the guys from DONS&DBN that I call sound of the future… check it out!
