The streets of Soho are never a dull place but on this Tuesday evening there is an extra buzz around town.
White heat is always a popular night with the under worked art school types
and those who feel Tuesday is still an excusable night to get plastered.
This fact is enforced by the scrum that surrounds the bar from opening till
close.
The layout of the club allows for riotous dancing almost reminiscent of the
mosh pits of yesteryear, while those who feel their moves are best saved for
the opposite sex have copious amounts of room to show off their skill.
On this night, those who had managed to get into the club (the queue was
still snaking around the corner until half an hour before closing) were in
for a special surprise. It was claimed that the one off musical
collaboration that the sweaty throng were treated to was in aid of the
impending release of "Falling Off The Lavender Bridge" by Lightspeed
Champion. However I have a sneaking suspicion that was only an excuse for a
collaboration of this kind.
The embarrassingly named 'Pun Loving Criminals' consisted, in part, of Dev
(Lightspeed Champion), Fred (Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man.) Victoria and Samantha (Ipso
Facto) Graphic designer Ferry, Miles (The Rascals) and most surprisingly Alex
Turner from stadium fillers The Arctic Monkeys.
Playing a selection of quickly rehearsed covers including tunes from The
Vines, The Von Bondies and an entertaining version of The Strokes 'Reptillia' (The video for this is available for your dissection in the LKTV section of this site) The crowd of surprised and drunken punters were pogoing and stage diving like the cider fuelled kids at the all ages shows.
Again it seems impossible to attend events like this without running into
the same faces. Some of which are more entertaining than others, most
notable a 'shitfaced' Kelly Osbourne who spoke exclusively to the LK cameras
about life, family and "living the dream!".
All in all White Heat does the job. Waking up worse for wear on a Wednesday
morning with ringing in your ears and a phone number scribbled on your arm
in red lipstick is what weekdays should be about!
