LK meets Those Dancing Days and they're a Hitten
Conversing with the girls was like reminiscing about all the good times we had together; on tour, shopping, that time we ate cow poo food (they meant cowboy but we misheard). Hmm, so I forget I'm not actually in the band, but the girls; Rebecka, Cissi, Lisa, Mimmi and Linnea are so welcoming that it was easy to think I was. Sweet, charming and delightful it's no real surprise their popularity is growing, especially as Rebecka explains in Germany where 'the fans are a little bit crazier, they made an aisle for us as we walked off the stage, they treated us like pop stars'.
So far complementary Germans haven't gone to their heads; in fact conversely throughout the interview TDD express a positive and healthy attitude towards their music. Realising that their own opinion is more important than critical appraise, Cissi explains 'when we were not ready with everything (the album), we thought a lot about how people were going to take it - but now I'm so satisfied with it, so we don't really care what other people think. It would be fun if people liked it but as long as we are five that like it then we don't mind'.
Obviously more success will also mean more time spent away from home but the girls seem prepared for this with Lisa stating 'at the moment we've been away for seven days, then like three days at home. In September we are going away for longer, so we're going to miss home more, but it's ok'. When they do get a moment to themselves at home the girls like to wind down by doing ordinary things; Mimmi like every teenager likes to 'lie on the couch not spending any money' while Lisa more obscurely enjoys gardening. However life heats up on tour; 'it wasn't very crazy but we thought it was cool, we ate lunch beside Debbie Harry!' describes Cissi delightedly. Mimmi nodding in agreement 'she is cool still - we stood in the front watching her whole show'.
Not only endearingly thrilled when seeing artists they like but the band still get nervous when playing gigs, especially to large audiences. They laughingly tell how hefty audiences also get them quite sweaty, Cissi adding to a burst of giggling that she can 'sweat like a waterfall'. If it's causing them to need a stronger deodorant the sweating simply demonstrates how enthusiastic and passionate the crowds that are coming to see them must be.
So what does the future hold for TDD? At the moment more touring, 'we're doing Manchester, London, Leicester, then Germany and Brussels, oh and Japan this fall'. 'We want to go to Japan!' we shouted excitedly. Amusing us they joked we could join them but only if we were their slaves and masseuses in return. They also want to have a brick lane bagel again, 'first time we were here we had the best one ever with a lot of cheese. Then we went back and it wasn't as good' Lisa says with a slight sadness in her voice. Bagels and slaves aside, for now the girls are content with having a completed LP under their belts, proudly exclaiming 'we did it!'. With the album's lyrics set to be in Linnea's words 'from a teenage head' and its sound as Rebecka surmises to be 'emotional, like pop!', I can't see how they couldn't have done it.
'In Our Space Hero Suits' arrives in stores October 6th.
